John Philip SousaAn American composer and conductor famous for marches such as The Stars and Stripes Forever
Sousa's Opposition to RecordingSousa hated recordings, and refused to conduct his band if a phonograph was anywhere in the room. Ironically, many of his marches survive today in recorded format, and would not be as popular today if not for recording.
